The Los Angeles Arts Advocacy Team is a group of community stakeholders whose mission is to support and advocate for the arts in Los Angeles schools and civic life.

The group envisions a Los Angeles with a collaborative network of support for all arts and artists, permanent and adequate funding for the arts, embedded and systemic arts education, robust and engaging community arts (artreach), effective and creative use of public spaces and a strong community voice supporting local arts.

Bennett Kayser has officially won the runoff election for LAUSD School Board 5th District seat after an extremely close election.  The Los Angeles Times reports that Kayser won by only 600 votes, receiving 10,700 total votes in an election with less than 10% voter turnout. 
On May 24th, students, parents and educators from across California joined in over 20 “Wake up California” rallies to support adequate funding for public schools. The rallies were aimed at focusing attention to the financial crisis facing public schools in California. Rally participants urged the California State Legislature to pass the revenue extensions proposed by Governor Brown that would stave off any further cuts to public education.
The Los Angeles City Council has begun the public review of the Mayor’s proposed 2011-12 budget. On Tuesday, April 26th, the Arts, Parks, Health & Aging Committee discussed the Department of Cultural Affairs’ (DCA) current budget and the Mayor’s proposed budget relative to the department.
The Los Angeles City Council Budget & Finance Committee will hold a special meeting at 6:30pm on Monday, April 4th, to discuss the City's financial status and any projected shortfalls for the coming year.  The meeting provides an opportunity for stakeholders to learn more about the City's fiscal projections, and to provide public testimony related to the proposed budget if desired.
Late Friday, March 18th, the Los Angeles' City Administrative Office has issued a series of budget recommendations that include sweeping cuts to city departments, services and expenditures, including Neighborhood Councils, Channel 36, crossing guards, Recreation & Parks and the Department of Cultural Affairs.
The deadline for the Los Angeles Budget Survey, LABudgetChallenge.lacity.org, has been extended through March 4, 2011 to accommodate the many stakeholders who have not yet had a chance to voice their choice on which City Services to preserve and which will have to take on deeper cuts. 
Four Barnsdall Art Park facilities have been removed from the proposed public/private partnership list by the Los Angeles City Council.  The decision comes after nearly a year of discussions regarding the feasibility of transitioning 14 city-owned cultural centers to public/private partnerships.  Several facilities, including Watts Towers Art Center, have alrea
